I have had the opportunity to compete in pageants for three years and I can tell you that this is a time of remarkable experiences and gaining friendships that can last a lifetime, but it starts here:
"TOLERANCE: the acceptance of the differing views of other people and fairness toward the people who hold these different views." Many times throughout our lives we have commented that a person is "annoying", "obnoxious" or that what they say and believe "are messed up." We may not have opened our hearts to what is behind that individual's thoughts or actions or what God given talents they have acquired. We may be too busy focusing on ourselves and our own personal views. This prevents a person from fairly, honestly and openly getting to know one another. A good place to start is by asking an open ended question such as "Tell me something interesting about yourself." Everyone likes to talk about something they are proud of and it provides you with an inside look at what they like, believe in or value. Focus the conversation on the other person as at this time, it should not be about you. You may be surprised at the interests you might have in common, thus the start of a new friendship.
One area "thatsosforus.org" is trying to instill is tolerance. Activities are created to promote friendships. They are a gathering for individuals from all areas and walks of life that share a common interest to have the opportunity to form friendships and camaraderie. It provides a forum to learn from others and in return, to teach what you may have learned from your experiences.
In the words of Robert G. Ingersoll, "Tolerance is giving to every other human being every right that you claim for yourself."
